MySpace takes on President Bush with ‘MyState of the Union’

January 11th, 2007 · No Comments

Politicians in the UK were recently all over the press with news about how they were employing blogs in their efforts to “connect with constituents” and show they were prepared for a new technological age.

So perhaps we might see some getting down with MySpace, following the news that in the US, MySpace has launched a contest called “MyState of the Union“.  This comp allows members to submit a 60sec video expressing their views on the current state of America.

In an interesting twist, MySpace is going head-to-head with George Bush by announcing the winner the day before the President delivers his own State of the Union Address.

MySpace view this (ed – great idea) as “another way for our community to express themselves and make a positive impact on the world.  2007 is going to be a big year for political engagement on MySpace and this kicks things off in the right direction.”

So maybe we will see David Cameron “getting down” pretty soon after all!
