Whilst the trend for offering aspiring bands the chance to perform at massive events is nothing new (Topman Unsigned Stage at Leeds festival etc.) there has been a recent surge in websites getting peers to vote for a winner (startomorrow.com with Nissan & Marc Ecko being an example).
Singapore tends be quite behind with initiatives like this, and so we see StarHub (a Singapore info-comms brand) leveraging their sponsorship of a forthcoming Hoobastank gig with a straight-up honest votes-for-prizes opportunity for a lucky band.
Visitors to ripplevox.com can either upload a track or vote for their favourite, which would result in 5 bands performing live in front of a panel of judges and fans. The winner would then…oh, I can’t be bothered to type it out – you know what happens next…
