ITV backs Billie Piper drama with Facebook group

September 5th, 2007 · No Comments

I’ve just read in the latest issue of Marketing that ITV is to launch a branded Facebook group to support the new drama featuring Billie Piper, The Secret Diary of a Call Girl.  ITV has enlisted the help of the anonymous blogger Belle de Jour, who has gained notoriety for her autobiographical tales of prositution.

So Belle de Jour has created a profile where she’ll do pretty much the same thing as her blog, but for ITV.  In an interesting touch, she will also apparantly respond personally to emails and comments.

My first thought is “great”, but thinking about it, I’m not so sure.  Is she really going to respond personally?  When will she write her blog, if she’s busy doing all this other stuff? So will there be an army of Belle de Jour’s responding?

And will her daliance with a big nasty brand damage her reputation? Will she care?
