Live Nation pulls O2 Wireless Leeds

February 21st, 2008 · No Comments

Live Nation have decided not to go ahead with the Leeds leg of the O2 Wireless Festival following disappointing attendance over the last couple of years, with the event failing to entice in the same way as London.

But fear not, as it will be replaced by a series of smaller ‘warm-up’ gigs around the country, featuring acts playing Hyde Park.  These will be known as the O2 Wireless Weekenders, and take place throughout May and June.

I’m interested to know whether O2 have therefore seen a reduction in their sponsorship fee, as I’m sure there would be a cancellation clause in such a case.  Whilst the smaller gigs do spread the reach of the event, both geographically and in terms of the lifespan, I’m not sure that they would count as a replacement for the outdoor Leeds event.
