Nokia have a nice little thing going on with The Royal Artist Club, which is essentially a platform for artists (and credible ones at that!) to communicate with their fans in a blog format, using N Series handsets.
I like this because it has a genuine feel about it, with artists posting just random stuff that gives an insight to a fan. For example, the Dub Pistols have posted some pics of a crabs in a fish tank. Means nothing to me, I’m not a fan. But there might be a running joke that one of them looks like a crab. Or something….you get the idea.
What I’m getting at is that it really feels like an artist-driven initiative, and you kind of forget that it is essentially a marketing tool. Which is harder to achieve than it sounds.
By targeting some really credible but small acts and artists, it has much more resonance with me; it’s much more realistic and relevant to me because it’s on my level, and therefore makes it much easier for me to make the leap from observing other people doing it to using an N Series and doing something similar myself.
