I’ve been really interested in the latest Nokia campaign, urging us all to ‘meet our city’. The idea is to upload a picture of a person special to you, in London, and write a simple phrase about them. The picture and description then sit on the main site and will potentially be showcased in the new Nokia store on Regent Street. The idea being that the rest of London can ‘meet’ them in one of these places.
Although I’m normally very wary of this type of campaign, much like entering a competition to get your name printed on the inside of an album sleeve along with 5,000 others, this has really grabbed me. Mainly due to the mixed online and offline nature, but also because of the top drawer content it has attracted. It’s extremely easy to while away time scrolling through the site, looking at the photos and remarks which range from the emotive to the bizarre.
At the end of it, it seems that Nokia’s quest of getting me to meet my city has been completed, in some voyeuristic sort of way at least. If you happen to be around the Centre Point area there is also a giant billboard with some of the best pics.
