I’ve been given a heads-up on some new Vodafone activity launching next week that is pretty interesting and makes you work that little bit harder than most promotions.
Essentially its a mini-tour of UK cities by a guy called LiveGuy. He’ll be posting clues as to his whereabouts across a number of social networking including Facebook and Twitter. When you think you know where he is grab your boots and stick your out of office on, and hunt him down. He’s giving away 4 netbooks each day which have Vodafone mobile broadband built in.
What I really like about this campaign, and hats off to Dare and the client for having the balls, is the use of one of Vodafone’s sponsorship properties - the Vodafone MaClaren Mercedes F1 deal, and more specifically, Lewis Hamilton. But instead of being all po-faced about the fact they have the hottest sports star in the world at the moment, they’ve had some fun with it and the result is pretty good. For me it says a lot about a brand that used to take itself too seriously, and I can see it becoming a massively popular clip on YouTube.
Vodafone - if you’re reading, I’d love a notebook so I can carry on writing this blog on the cra**er or wherever the mood takes me!!!!
