Virgin Trains to sponsor MTV Europe Music Awards

September 16th, 2008 · No Comments

I’ve always been really puzzled by the scattergun approach that seems to represent the MTV event sponsorships since…well, since I can remember, to be honest.
Virgin Trains has been announced as the latest sponsor for the European Music Awards, which is also being sponsored by edc (Esprit clothing), Sony Ericsson and Dell computers.  Virgin will be […]

In what seems primarily an effort to get more content and credibility for the W910i Walkman handset, Sony Ericsson has been announced as a sponsor of this years Mobo Awards.  You may remember that Sony Ericsson recently did a deal with the urban music label, Def Jam.
As part of the deal Mobo will provide exclusive […]

Industry confusion over Nokia ‘Comes With Music’

September 9th, 2008 · No Comments

It seems there is a bit of industry confusion over payments to the different ‘people’ involved in the deal, which offers free music for a year from a huge online store that is being touted as yet another iTunes killer (but in reality won’t make a dent in the collective concious).

Slipknot hook up with HMV

September 8th, 2008 · No Comments

(from Rich)

Tiger Beer: Night of the Tiger events

August 28th, 2008 · No Comments

I came across this website on the Vice site promoting a Tiger Beer event, called Night of the Tiger.  Looks like a fairly generic beer-sponsored music event with a free-ticket-if-you-give-us-your-details system.
Like the stereotyping going on as well with the ladyboy references…very progressive!

The Viral Vinyl

August 12th, 2008 · No Comments

(From Rich)
Nice little viral marketing concept from singer-songwriter Tallulah Rendall. Everyone who was at her last gig was given a vinyl copy of her upcoming single ‘Only You’ with a lovely bit of artwork, a short story and a unique download code. Everyone is encouraged to download the single using the code, but also pass […]

Pete Tong loses his tunes…..

August 6th, 2008 · No Comments

(From Rich)
Alternate Reality Games (ARG’s) have been around for a bit now but still provide a novel way to promote music. Nine Inch Nails set the tone with ‘Year Zero’, which promoted the album of the same name. It seems now that dance acts are getting in on the act as ‘The White Island’ is […]
